The Geauga Park District's Observatory Park in Montville Township was granted status as a silver-tier dark-sky park by the International Dark-Sky Association in 2011. "I would describe the IDA as the self-appointed dark-sky sheriffs in the world," says Geauga Park District naturalist Chris Mentrek. "They keep tabs on light pollution.

Observatory Park is very good for most people and simply outstanding with anyone with any interest in astronomy. The park is deliberately located in a remote area to keep down light pollution. It's at the eastern edge of Geauga County near Ashtabula County. Still, it's about 5 minutes off of route 322/Mayfield Road, so it's easy to get to.
